History & Background
Tested over 750,000 poles
Due to the escalating cost of pole replacement, property management, safety and environmental responsibilities and possible liability cases, a well-planned pole maintenance and life extension program is increasingly important for today’s utilities. PoleCare International is one of the most recognized utility pole inspection and remedial wood preservative treatment service providers across Canada. Within the last 18 plus years, PoleCare has tested over 750,000 poles for many Canadian utilities. Services provided by PoleCare include both traditional and non-destructive inspections, Resistograph testing, remedial wood preservative treatment,sub-meter GPS, digital photography, client training, job auditing, pole tagging, probable remaining pole strength and life estimates, overhead attachment and inventory recording. With a long history of high quality service and a management team understanding the importance of honesty and dual diligence in this industrial sector, PoleCare has built up strong relationships with utility clients nationwide who are ready to provide supporting references.
Founded in 1998 by the late Dr. Samy Krishnasamy – who was a former head of the Transmission, Distribution and Structures Unit of Ontario Hydro, carrying out R & D work on weather related conductor loads, probability based design methods, management and life extension of wood pole lines, testing of fiber optic ground wires, conductors, line hardware, and large scale civil structures. Dr. Krishnasamy had over 30 years of extensive education and professional experience with utility pole testing and life extension, and he also had memberships with most pole maintenance associations, and conducted scientific seminars throughout Canada, Norway, and Iceland.
In 2001 the company was bought by the late Ms. Lissi M. Jeppesen, who was a chemical engineer with over 30 years of extensive education and professional experience in wood preservation and protection, especially in the area of remedial wood preservative treatment against dry and wet rot, internal and external decay, wood boring insect and fungus attacks. Ms. Jeppesen was also a member of the Canadian Wood Preservation Association, and had served many positions in the CWPA including treasurer and president. After taking over, Ms. Jeppesen had introduced a full line of remedial wood preservative pole treatment products and services, and subsequently grew PoleCare from a small company of less than 5 people to a full pole inspection and treatment service provider that often runs more than 8 crews throughout Canada.
Owner-Operator Darren Fournier, who has served as General Manager from day one, worked alongside both former presidents Dr. Krishnasamy and Ms. Jeppesen for over 18 years. In addition to the training and knowledge gained from working closely with the two former leaders, Darren has over 25 years of hands-on pole inspection and treatment experience with know-how in right-of-way clearing and industrial vegetation management from working with many utilities throughout Canada and USA. Darren keeps himself current with multiple provincially and federally essential accreditations and certificates including pesticide applications and workplace health and safety regulations.
